Ben Johnson of West Ham United is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer when his contract

expires, and Football Insider reports that Leeds United and Rangers are showing a lot of interest in signing him.

The 24-year-old right-back has made the decision to move on in pursuit of more consistent first-team action,

something he thinks Leeds United and Rangers both offer.

Johnson was not persuaded to stay by West Ham despite their best efforts; the allure of landing a significant

role elsewhere on a new, long-term contract proved too great. Having played for the Hammers since he was

seven years old, the adaptable defender is eager to use his free agency status and leave a lasting impression at

his next team.

Johnson played 25 games for West Ham in the just finished campaign. But his job was mostly off the bench,

which made him want to move.

For teams trying to strengthen their defensive options, his versatility in playing as a left-back, wing-back,

midfielder, and even a winger has made him a desirable target. Johnson’s energy and adaptability were

frequently used by West Ham United boss David Moyes to shore up the defense late in games.

After rising through West Ham’s youth ranks and playing in his 100th senior game in February, Johnson’s exit

signals the end of an era for the homegrown player.

The Hammers’ utility player was previously linked to Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds, and Rangers

earlier in the previous campaign.

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson voiced his doubts about Johnson’s ability to make an

impact at Spurs. Although Robinson acknowledges that Johnson is versatile and can cover a variety of defense

positions, he isn’t sure the 24-year-old would make a big difference in Tottenham‘s starting lineup.
